Reformation vs Rebellion
Through out church history there have been historic reformations that brought life and restoration and on the other hand rebellions that did not stand the test of time and those involved facing God’s judgement and wrath.
So what is a reformation and what is a rebellion?
Now we need to understand both want a change in the existing leadership; both might be motivated with some good causes but when does one become right and the other wrong?
In order to understand things better let us look at some reformations and rebellions.
Martin Luther was one of the forerunners of the historic reformation which brought out the truth that ” the just shall live by faith”. Martin stood against the institutionalized church and everything it stood for and opposed it. He won the battle because God was on His side. We are now grateful for Luther and all that he has done . That was a reformation.
In scripture there are several examples of rebellion .
David had sinned and was under God’s judgement but not under is wrath. It was at this time Absalom rebelled against him and we all know the end thereof ! So what is the demarcating line between reformation and rebellion. One is absolutely necessary and right and the other is absolutely wrong and not necessary.
Here are some defining criterion for reformation. At the end of the day it has to be initiated by God ! If not we will be fighting God, Himself.
1) Has God left the place ( Ichabod)?
2) Are the leaders in any blatant sin or is false doctrine being taught?
3) Is it God ‘s time for leadership change? ( as in the case of Saul and David)
4) Is the nature of uprising God centered and righteous in nature rather than man centered ?
5) Is there love in the people who want to bring about change ?
6) Does a spirit of intercession prevail or a spirit of accusation?
7) Humility is an absolute criteria. Pride is the basis for rebellion.
These are some important questions to ask that will help discern a reformation or a rebellion!! It is a much needed understanding as we will be faced with these situations frequently as we approach the end times.
