Walking in His grace!

04/29/09
“The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble.” (Proverbs- 4:18-19)
In a time of increasing darkness and turmoil we as believers have the privilege of walking in greater light and peace. As a matter of fact the more the confusion and chaos in the world, the more grace and peace is available for us to walk in victory.
In this article we will look into some truths that will help us walk in the grace that is available to us as believers.
1) Without Christ we can do nothing!
Quite a few times when faced with overwhelming situations I’ve learnt to say “Lord I can’t, help me” and every time He has provided the grace to overcome the circumstance or situation. It comes out of simple dependency on Him and a child like trust  that He will always provide the grace to overcome. A child looking to its loving Father for help, knowing that he will surely respond.
We struggle when we try to do things in our own strength but when we learn to rest in Him ( lean on Him) and derive His strength we will not be shaken.
Brethren, the present times and those ahead are going to be tumultuous but for us as believers we have the grace available to walk in His peace and life.
Let us learn to lean on Him for strength.
“We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us” – Philippians 4:13
2) Be honest with God.

God knows who we are, our thoughts and our attitudes. Nothing is hidden from Him. When we are not honest about our thoughts and feelings, we tend to block our own deliverance or healing. However, if we bring them before Him (that which we are not able to overcome by ourselves) asking for help, He will surely help us in our place of error.

Many times when I’ve felt angry or hurt or tempted and it would be a battle to overcome in those situations. During those times, I’ve simply shared it with Him. “Lord, I am not able to let go of my anger, help me!”; “Lord, I am offended and not able to forgive, help me”; “Lord, I am tempted and don’t have the strength to resist, help me” .Every time I’ve done that He has not failed to help. 100 out of 100 times!!

Brethren, He is our loving Father isn’t He? If we can’t share our deepest feelings and struggles with Him expecting help then to whom or where can we go to?

Kathryn khulman illustrates this truth even better in her story. As a child whenever she broke something and couldn’t fix it she would take it to her father saying “Daddy fix it”. Every time she did that, he (her dad) always fixed the problem. He always found a way to do it.

She grew up knowing that if she had a problem her daddy would fix it. It was this simple trust acquired from her time with her earthly father that helped her to receive grace and strength from her heavenly father in times of brokenness later.
3) Be humble
Scriptures say that God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. If we want His grace in our lives then we need to learn to walk in humility. Humility as St Augustine describes it does not consist in slavish subservience, but in a sense of reality.
One expression of that reality is knowing who we are without and with Christ. Without Christ we are miserable sinners, with Him we are more than conquerors!

True humility is obtained when one sees the humility of the suffering Messiah. Thereafter, it must be consciously pursued and grown into. The more we walk in it the more grace we will have to walk in victory in our lives.
